Hadith Qudsi #21

For some people it's not enough to hire workers for starvation wages.  One has to figure a way to cheat them out of their dues.

There's pretty good authority that Hadith Qudsi #21 applies to both Muslims and non-Muslims.

I spoke to an expert who's done a lot of research on this topic and he estimated that (well) over 90% of gratuities etc. due to be paid on completion of the contract went unpaid across the Gulf.

This truly is a scourge of this part of the world.

It never ceases to amaze and sadden me that those with so much begrudge those with so little a few crumbs.

It's not only this part of the world.

I have been "around the block" geographically speaking and have seen and heard about unbounded avarice elsewhere.

The thought that some poor guy living in a shack somewhere has an extra 2 pesos, 10 yuan or 100 fils apparently troubles the kleptocracy no ends.

One reputed billionaire once told me how he saved $10 per month on salaries. He hired new workers at a minimum wage and then fired most of them before the 90 day probationary period was up. That way he didn't have to give them what was apparently in his view an outrageous raise.

This hadith has a very strong isnad and so we can trust that the matn is sound.
